Project

I miss how my fitness was of another level back in college. And how toned I was right after the bar and before work started. I  joined Fitness First for a year while I was in my rookie lawyer year. It was great for a while until my schedule started to take up gym opening hours. I enrolled in yoga classes but that too didn’t work because I kept on missing classes because of, surprise surprise, work schedule.

The easiest time to squeeze in some sweat time was late in the evening. The only solution was to do it at home. Luckily, our building has a simple but moderately-equipped gym. The question now is how to work out without the guidance of a trainer or an instructor.

Body Rock (www.bodyrock.tv) incorporates high intensity interval training/circuits, the kind of work out my trainer gives me back in Fitness First. Thirty minutes tops, and the day’s fitness dosage is done. Perfect.

I likewise bought a TRX kit (www.trxtraining.com). I have yet to explore the product, but I have tried the basic training routine twice. What a hard workout considering it was BASIC.

Both Body Rock and TRX are giving me fairly difficult work outs. With these circuits and some running here and there, I am hoping to target a short to mid distance race in 2 months time.

What I Have Been Up To

Instead of a lenghty account, here are the highlights of the first quarter of 2012:

(1) Condura Marathon 10k

After such a long hiatus, I came back to the running scene with a cameo 10k. Out of shape, admittedly, but with a not-so-bad 1 hour 7 minutes finish. :D The pictures are not so good, unfortunately, and I am now again in racing hiatus, unfortunately.

(2) White Water Rafting in Tiada, Cagayan De Oro

A sense of adventure has taken over and one of those activities I sought was this water sport. During February, rainy season, waters from the mountain flow to the rivers giving a more swell, and more notably, a more dirty experience. It’s not adventure if there’s no mud.

(3) March, Yoga Month

I enrolled in Yoga+, a (quite upscale) studio in the fort area complete with manduka mats and towels. I can’t decide which kind of yoga has become my favorite but I’ve tried fusion, hot yoga with 50 poses and hot yoga with 26 poses (aka bikram), and flow yoga. Man, such a workout. I wish it was less expensive, but totally worth it if you ask me. No picture of me doing yoga but you can check out the studio here: www.yogaplus.ph

(4) California Girl for a Week

Thanks to my law firm, we were sent to San Francisco. Such a charming place that I might consider were I to stay away from the Republic. A jampacked week where we power-toured the city and did some wine tasting in Napa Valley. I posted so much pics in instagram. Here’s one of the Golden Gate Bridge:

(5) Aquathlon

I was getting back in shape, so why not an Aquathlon. I faired okay, not great, but not bad either. In truth, I am really happy with my performance. I came in 9th out of 13 in my division with a total time of 51 minutes. Unfortunately, like I said earlier, I took a hiatus right after this. Fun experience! I wish I have people to train with!
